The Association: organisation and structure

The governing bodies of the Association are the General Meeting and the Council. The General Meeting is convened once a year, and elects the following officers: The President for the coming year (President Elect), the Secretary (term of office, three years), the chairman of Supervisory Board, the Editor–in–Chief of the journal "MAGYAR GEOFIZIKA" and the chair of Boards for the Foundation.  Between annual General Meetings, the affairs of the Association are handled by the Council, the members of which are: 1. The President (term of office, two years), the President Elect and the Past President; 2. The Secretary-at-large ; 3. The Editor–in–Chief of 'Magyar Geofizika' (term of office, three years); 4. one representative (chairman or secretary) from each section and regional chapter.

The Association  has five regional chapters. The headquarters of these chapters are in cities  with geophysics–related institutions.

The Association has national chapter(s) as well, representing global/international societies/associations  of great importance in this country. The SPWLA Budapest Chapter( belonging to the Society of Professional Well–Log Analysts)  was established in 1992, its members are scientific experts and engineers associated with petroleum exploration and production. The local (national) chapter of the EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers)  has been organised in 2005, working well in the domestic and international theatre.

The Association’s standing committees are: Editorial Board, Engineering Geophysics, Science,  Nominations, Juniors, Validation Board, Seniors'

The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists is a corporate member of the European Geophysical Society and an associated society of the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers


The secretariate of the Association is in the headquarters of the Hungarian Institute of Geology and Geophysics (formerly: Eötvös Loránd Geophysical Institute - ELGI),  the same place for the Hungarian Office of Mining and Geology ( MBFH).
